What a Hollywood smile usually means

"Hollywood smile" is a marketing phrase, not the name of a single dental treatment. Clinics use it for a cosmetic change to the visible teeth, often a full row of veneers or crowns, sometimes combined with whitening. Two clinics offering a Hollywood smile may be describing quite different plans. One may mean eight porcelain veneers on the upper teeth, another twenty crowns on both arches. Before you compare prices, find out exactly what is planned for each tooth.

Veneers are thin coverings fixed to the front of a tooth. Crowns cover the whole tooth. Both usually involve shaping the natural tooth, and the Oral Health Foundation warns that heavy filing for crowns or veneers causes permanent damage. The number of teeth to be treated is a clinical decision that you make together with your dentist. Ask whether every tooth on the plan really needs treatment to reach the look you want, and whether less invasive options, such as whitening or orthodontics, could help instead.

How to read a Hollywood smile quote

A quote should list every tooth, the type of restoration and the material. If it only shows a package price, ask for a breakdown. The calculator needs a price per tooth and the number of teeth, plus one-off costs such as consultations, a trial smile and temporaries. With those figures you can see where most of the money goes and compare plans fairly. We do not use average prices, because a figure based on someone else's plan would not fit yours.

Use the second quote to test different versions of your own plan. For example, compare a plan for the teeth that show when you smile with a plan that covers more teeth. You can also compare two materials. If your dentist gives you an expected lifespan, the calculator shows a rough cost per year. Remember that any restoration may need repairing or replacing later, and that cost would come on top of the figures you see today.

Hollywood smile in the UK or in Turkey

Many people who search for a Hollywood smile are comparing a UK practice with a clinic in Turkey. If you do, look at more than the treatment price. The NHS treatment abroad checklist says you cannot get reimbursement for dental treatment abroad. The same checklist advises telling your insurer about your plans and allowing for the cost of return trips. Our Turkey teeth cost calculator adds flights, hotels, transfers and repeat trips to the quote.

The General Dental Council recommends talking to your own dentist before travelling for treatment. It suggests asking who will carry out the work, what their qualifications are, whether the work is guaranteed, what aftercare is provided and who pays if corrective work is needed. Get aftercare arrangements in writing before you go. If you feel pressured to decide on the day, the GDC says you do not have to commit to anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Hollywood smile?

It is a marketing term for a cosmetic change to the visible teeth, usually with veneers or crowns and sometimes whitening. It is not a single clinical treatment, so different clinics may mean different things by it. Ask for a written plan that lists each tooth, the type of restoration and the material.

How much does a Hollywood smile cost?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on how many teeth are treated, whether you have veneers or crowns, the materials and the practice. Ask for an itemised quote, enter the price per tooth, the number of teeth and one-off costs in the calculator, and you will see your own total and cost per tooth.

How many teeth are done for a Hollywood smile?

There is no fixed number. Some plans cover only the teeth that show when you smile, others cover both arches. The number is a clinical decision you should make with your dentist, based on your teeth, your bite and what you want to achieve. Ask why each tooth is included in the plan.

Does a Hollywood smile ruin your teeth?

Veneers and crowns usually involve removing some natural tooth structure, which does not grow back. The Oral Health Foundation warns that heavy filing for crowns or veneers causes permanent damage. Ask your dentist how much tooth will be removed, whether less invasive options exist, and what would happen if a restoration had to be replaced later.

Are veneers or crowns used for a Hollywood smile?

Either can be used, depending on the plan. Veneers cover the front of the tooth, while a crown is a cap that covers the whole tooth. Ask your dentist which option suits each tooth, how much of the tooth each would need to be shaped, and why. The answer may be different for different teeth in the same smile.

Can I get a Hollywood smile on the NHS?

The NHS provides clinically necessary treatment. Cosmetic treatments are usually done privately. If a crown is clinically necessary, it falls in NHS Band 3, which costs £332.10 in England from 1 April 2026. A purely cosmetic Hollywood smile is not something the NHS provides. Ask your dentist which parts, if any, are clinically necessary.

Is it worth getting a Hollywood smile in Turkey?

That is a personal decision and we cannot make it for you. Compare full costs, including travel, extra trips and insurance, with our Turkey teeth cost calculator. Ask the questions the General Dental Council suggests about qualifications, guarantees, aftercare and complaints, and talk to your own dentist before you book.

How long does a Hollywood smile last?

There is no fixed lifespan. Veneers and crowns can chip, crack, come loose or need replacing over time, and replacements cost money. Ask your dentist what lifespan they expect for your plan, then enter it under "Lifespan your dentist told you, in years (optional)" to see a rough cost per year.
